The Story Behind The Belt

Who Jay Briscoe was. Jamin Pugh, known as Jay Briscoe, wrestled for Ring of Honor from the company’s first show in 2002 until his death. He and his brother Mark were inducted into the ROH Hall of Fame in 2022.

What he won in ROH. Briscoe held the ROH World Championship twice, in 2013 and 2014. With his brother he holds the record for ROH World Tag Team Championship reigns at thirteen, and he was also a ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champion.

What he won elsewhere. The Briscoes carried tag team titles outside ROH as well, including the IWGP Tag Team Championship in New Japan and the Impact World Tag Team Championship.

How his career ended. Briscoe died in a car accident in Laurel, Delaware on 17 January 2023, aged 38. He was a reigning ROH World Tag Team Champion at the time, having won the titles from FTR the previous month. ROH aired a tribute show, the Jay Briscoe Celebration of Life, the following day.

How to look after antique plating. Buff only the raised surfaces. The darker tone sits deliberately in the recesses, so scrubbing the hollows lifts the effect and flattens the design.

How to store the leather strap. Hang it at full length or lay it flat, away from radiators and direct sunlight. Folding leaves a permanent crease behind the centre plate.

What to do if something comes loose. Contact us before attempting a repair. Household adhesive stains plating around the seam and cannot be removed.
