Rikidozan Japanese International Championship Title

The Rikidozan Japanese International Championship replica belt rebuilds the title formally known as the NWA International Heavyweight Championship, the belt Rikidozan carried from 1958 until his death.

We make it one belt at a time. Choose your plates in zinc SD or zinc CNC. Solid brass is there when you want serious weight. Thickness runs from 2mm up to 8mm. CNC etching cuts the detail deep so an older design keeps its character. Finish it in standard gold or step up to 24k. Nickel and silver and antiques are available too. The hand-tooled cowhide strap measures 50 inches and fits a waist up to 46. A finished belt weighs 7 to 8 lbs. Prices run from $130 to $520 and the nameplate is free.

Choose Your Build

Which plate metal to pick. Zinc SD comes from a die-cast mould and fills the detail cleanly at the lowest price. Zinc CNC machines each plate instead so the edges hold sharper. Brass is denser than both and gives this belt the weight a 1950s design deserves.

Which plate thickness to pick. Order 2mm or 4mm if you plan to wear the belt. Order 6mm or 8mm if it is heading for a display case, because thicker plates throw deeper shadows under lighting.

Why engraving matters on this design. This belt carries no enamel panels or colour blocks, so the engraving does all the work. CNC etching cuts deeper than stamping and keeps the crown and the ring detail readable rather than soft.

Which plating suits a vintage title. Standard gold covers evenly at the lower price. The 24k upgrade warms the tone, which sits better on a 1950s design than a bright modern finish. Antique plating is worth considering here because it settles into the recesses and makes the plates look their age.

What you can customize. You can change the plate metal, the plate thickness and the plating. You can also change the strap colour, the stitch colour and the strap length. Your nameplate is free and we cut logo side plates from artwork you send us.

The Story Behind The Belt

How Rikidozan won the title. Rikidozan beat Lou Thesz on August 27, 1958 in Los Angeles to take the NWA International Heavyweight Championship. Thesz had been the first holder, awarded the title in November 1957 after losing the NWA World Heavyweight Championship to Dick Hutton.

How long Rikidozan held it. Rikidozan held the NWA International Heavyweight Championship for 1,936 days. The reign ran until his death in December 1963 and it made the belt the top prize of the Japan Wrestling Association, the promotion he founded.

What the Rikidozan belt looked like. The belt Rikidozan carried followed the pattern of Lou Thesz’s own 1950s NWA World Heavyweight belt, with a row of plates running across the strap. After Rikidozan died, the version handed to Giant Baba used a different design entirely, which is why collectors separate the two.

Why does this design still matter? Rikidozan’s belt went on to shape later Japanese championships. Its look fed into All Japan’s PWF Heavyweight Championship and the centre plate of the Triple Crown Heavyweight Championship, so this is the design most Japanese title belts trace back to. Every Japanese heavyweight title that followed, including the IWGP Heavyweight Championship, traces back to this era.

Designed For Fans, Collectors, And Champions

Who buys the Rikidozan replica? This belt suits collectors who start their display at the beginning of Japanese wrestling rather than with NJPW. Puroresu historians want the belt the sport was built on. Gym owners and promoters occasionally pick it because a 1950s design reads as heritage rather than merchandise. Collectors who start before the IWGP era usually pair it with the Asia tag title from the same period.

Which build suits which buyer. Order brass in 6mm or 8mm if the belt is going on a wall, since weight and depth suit a vintage design. Order 2mm or 4mm zinc if you intend to wear it, and consider antique plating either way to keep the period look. Every title that came after this era is gathered in our IWGP replica belt collection.

Care And Display

How to clean the plates. Use a dry microfibre cloth on the plates and nothing stronger. Metal polish and household sprays strip plating permanently, and an engraving-led design shows that damage faster than a belt with colour panels.

How to store the leather strap. Hang the belt at full length or lay it flat, because folding leaves a crease behind the centre plate that never lifts. Keep the strap away from radiators and direct sunlight, both of which dry cowhide and fade the dye.

How to look after antique plating. Buff antique finishes gently and only on the raised surfaces. The darker tone sits deliberately in the recesses, so scrubbing those hollows lifts the effect and leaves the plate looking flat.

What to do if something comes loose. Contact us before attempting a repair. Glue and solvents damage plating and leather far faster than the original fault does, and a loose snap or plate is straightforward for us to put right.
